Icy conditions slowing down the roads this morning

Exeter's roads are busy this morning with the frosty start, with some icy roads. Most roads have heavy traffic, but are moving. However, expect delays on A377 Alphington Road inbound in Exeter at the Cowick Lane junction, because one lane is closed due to a burst water main and surface water. There is a diversion currently in operation.

There is also slow traffic on the A377 inbound in Exeter from Alphington Junction to Exe Bridges.

Census finds a steep decline in religion in Exeter

Findings from the 2011 census for England and Wales have revealed the number of people who say they are Christian has dropped from 72% to 59% in ten years. The statistics also show the number of people who say they have no religion has risen from 15% to 25%.

The census figures reveal that Muslims are the second largest religious group in the country at 4.8%. The third most popular religion was Hinduism, with 1.5 per cent of the population, while 0.8 per cent were Sikhs and 0.5 per cent Jewish.

Jackpotjoy.com succeeded in bringing a smile to the faces of chilly Londoners this morning as an enormous rubber duck floated down the Thames as part of the website's 'FUNdation' launch.

Gay weddings to be banned by Churches of England and Wales

Gay weddings in the Churches of England and Wales will be explicitly banned under new laws on same-sex marriage, the Government has announced.

Other religious organisations will be able to "opt in" to holding ceremonies, Culture Secretary Maria Miller said. But she added that the Church of England and Church in Wales had "explicitly" stated strong opposition and would not be included.
