Alma Bridge in Sidmouth is scheduled to close for part of next week while further investigative work is carried out on the structure.

The footbridge was damaged during the severe flooding in July and as a precautionary safety measure, a temporary crossing was installed across the bridge.

The deterioration of the mudstone rock foundations beneath the western pier, which were exposed by the floods, were raised as a concern by the County Council's bridge engineers. The structure has been continually monitored and further investigations will be carried out during the closure...

Heavy Rain Not A Problem For Cranbrook

East Devon District Council has been happy to report that the new town of Cranbrook in East Devon was unaffected by the recent bad weather and its drainage system has coped magnificently against unprecedented levels of rain.

This first major test of the new community drainage system has proven that local concerns about flooding were unfounded, but as Cllr Andrew Moulding, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Partnerships explains, this was no surprise to East Devon District Council:

“The only thing Cranbrook’s been flooded with is unfounded rumours. We did not...

With all agreed building work now complete, the Council will grant the developers Harlequinn Bowling and Leisure Ltd a 125-year ground lease under the terms of a building agreement first drawn up in 2006. This will take place once Western Power completes the...

The Devon Derby between Exeter and Torquay at Plainmoor ended 1-1, thanks to penalties by Rene Howe and Alan Gow .

Bennett was penalised early in the match allowing Howe to convert, but Gow (pictured) drew a foul minutes from the end to offer the Grecians a lifeline.

Exeter boss Paul Tisdale rang the changes ahead of the Devon Derby at Plainmoor.

With the pitch looking fairly torn up after a tough winter of flooding in Devon, the City manager withdrew Alan Gow , Matt Oakley and Jimmy...

RockSolid fever gripping the South West and beyond

With RockSolidRace’s inaugural event only two months away, obstacle racing is becoming the hot topic of conversation. The event, being held on 16th March, offers a challenge like no other seen in the South West.

We’re talking about the choice of a 5k or 10k obstacle course that includes scaling 8 ft walls, crawling through mud under barbed wire and plenty of water based obstacles - it’s certainly not a course for the faint-hearted! That, however, doesn’t seem to be putting people off as they’re signing up in their droves.

Demand for the event has already surpassed initial...
