Freedom Food – the RSPCA’s food labelling scheme - today launches its first ever photo competition for talented amateur photographers to show off their best snaps of farm animals.

All kinds of photos can be submitted from quirky cows to dabbling ducks, the serious to the humorous, and close ups or landscapes, as contest organiser Liam...

Garden transformation at Pine Lodge, Hospiscare

The garden at Pine Lodge in Tiverton has come a long way since Hospiscare opened the Day Care Unit based on Post Hill in 2011.

What was little more than a dumping ground just over a year ago is almost unrecognisable today.

A team of volunteers have worked tirelessly to take the garden in hand and transform the green space ready for an open garden event being held on 8 June.

The garden had been an overrun mass of trees, bushes and rabbits, but has since become a haven for patients at the unit, which is now beginning to burst with spring colour.

Colonies of gannets maintain vast exclusive fishing ranges despite doing nothing to defend their territory from rival colonies, scientists have discovered.

A team of researchers led by the University of Exeter and the University of Leeds observed that northern gannets, which can fly hundreds of kilometres on a single fishing trip, avoided visiting the fishing grounds of gannets from neighbouring colonies.

The findings, published in the journal Science, could transform our understanding of animals’ foraging patterns because individual gannets do nothing to enforce this...

Female company directors are better judges of longer-term company performance

Groundbreaking research by the University of Exeter Business School reveals that female company directors defy negative gender stereotyping by astutely valuing future company performance.

The stock market responds more positively to trades made by male directors in their own company stock than their female counterparts, new research reveals. However, over the longer term (3-12 months), returns made by female directors on trades in their own company stock are at least equal to, or exceed, those of their male counterparts.

The study by the University of Exeter Business School...

See Spots Run

You would think with all the spot products and vanishing creams on the market, we would see clearer faces in the hallways of high schools and secondary schools.

The problem is, most teenagers don't think about taking care of their skin. They think they and their bodies are invincible but the truth is, if acne is left untreated it's easy to pick at a spot and cause even more damage or worse - end up with scars for life. The good news is that acne is treatable and you don't need harsh chemicals to get the job done.

The first step is cleansing not only the skin, but deep down...

Devon and Cornwall Police’s newest puppy recruits can be seen live over the internet.

For the first time ever the dog section has bred its own litter of pups from an existing police dog and the force is streaming the dogs’ welfare live over the web.

Police German Shepherd ‘Ruby’ gave birth to the litter of pups early in the morning of Monday 3 June.

It is hoped that when they are old enough they will be able to be trained up as police dogs for the Force.

After an initial period with their mother the puppies will go to family homes for a period of twelve to...
