Newcomer Ceri Sweeney says he cannot wait to tackle the demands of the Aviva Premiership when he kick-starts his Exeter Chiefs career next week.

National award for local coffee business

Buckfastleigh-based independent coffee specialist, Coffee West Ltd, has been announced as winner of ‘Distributor of the year’ trade award at the Spring Ball in London last week.

The Award ceremony on 10 April, 2013 was sponsored by the Essential Café magazine and took place at St John’s Smith Square, in the heart of Westminster.

Puzzletree hosts sports day for all

The Puzzletree in Okehampton is hosting a fun day of sport on Monday 24 June from 10am-4pm.

This year’s event is the third in succession that the Puzzletree has organised for people with learning disabilities.

The fun day is free to attend, and includes a variety of sports to encourage people to try new activities, as well as those they already enjoy.

Sports include boccia, badminton, volleyball, short tennis, seated exercise, velcro targets, dance, fencing, TaiChi, croquet, table tennis, exercise machines, basketball, parachute games, football and frisbee throwing...

Tiverton High School beats cream tea world record

Students and staff at Tiverton High School are claiming the world record for the biggest ever cream tea.

They played host to 559 guests for a proper cream tea yesterday (12 June).

The current world record for the biggest cream tea is 403 people, but an event earlier this year claimed 430.

Pupils from local primary schools, Tiverton students and staff and special guests from the community all joined in to swell the record-breaking numbers which have still to be ratified by Guinness World Records.

Officials from GWR were present at the attempt today.

University of Exeter listed in the top 20 greenest universities

The University of Exeter has been awarded a first class award for the fifth year running and ranked 13 out of 143 universities.

The People & Planet Green League 2013 is the UK's only comprehensive and independent green ranking of universities. It assesses the environmental and ethical performance of all universities, awarding 'first class degrees' to the greenest and ‘fail’ to those doing the least to address their environmental impacts. The University of Exeter is among 43 institutions to achieve a ‘first’ in 2013 and has risen to 13th from 24th position in the league....
