King Alfred Way proposal debate is postponed

A controversial planning application at Newton Poppleford has been taken off the agenda of an East Devon District Council planning meeting today (Tuesday) at the eleventh hour due to an intervention by Natural England.

The Government’s official adviser on wildlife and conservation is one of several “statutory consultees” who were asked to comment on Clinton Devon estates’ proposal for up to 40 homes plus doctors’ surgery off King Alfred Way, Newton Poppleford.

Their comments had not been received when the formal deadline passed several weeks ago, but finally arrived today (...

The Abolition of Slavery

The speaker will be Graham Martin who is the secretary of Exeter Anti-slavery Group.

The Network Central event due to take place at Exeter's Sandy Park in November has been thrown into disrepute following the sentencing of well-known Devon businessman and the event's organiser Rod Major. Mr Major has been jailed for acting in contravention to a ban on running a company and owing creditors a total of £126,000.

17-year-old boy airlifted after car overturns on M5 near Cullompton

A 17-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after the car he was travelling rolled on the M5 southbound near Cullompton.

The collision happened just before 11am today (Monday 19 August) about one mile past Junction 28.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene.

Five people were injured in the silver Toyota Avensis, which is registered to Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

A 17-year-old boy has been taken by air ambulance to Derriford with a head injury. The other four occupants of the car have been taken to RD&E with minor injuries....
