What The Frock! all-female comedy club makes its Exeter debut at the Phoenix Arts Centre.

What The Frock! Comedy has sold out shows in Bristol, London and Manchester… and now is delighted to announce it’s pilot event in Exeter at the Phoenix Arts Centre.

The Canadian author Alice Munro has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Described by the jury as a "master of the contemporary short story", Munro, 82, has published numerous collections over a 45-year career.

Born in Wingham, Ontario in 1931, her mother was a teacher, and a father a fox farmer. After finishing high school, she began studying journalism and English at the University of Western Ontario, but broke off her studies when she got married in 1951. Together with her husband, she settled in Victoria, British Columbia, where the couple opened a bookstore....

RMT members working on First Great Western to hold 24-hour strike

Members of the RMT working for sub-contractors Mitie on First Great Western will strike for 24 hours from tomorrow morning (Friday 11 October) in what the union has described as "a fight for a living wage and workplace justice".

The strike action follows a vote for action by members of the The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers which will see the sub-contracted cleaners walk out between 06:00 hours on Friday 11 October 2013 and 05:59 hours on Saturday 12 October 2013.

Opened on 5 September 2013, the Russell Seal Fitness Centre on the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus is already proving a huge success.

The dedicated two storey facility features over 200 stations of the latest Life Fitness equipment as well as a new studio and changing rooms. The step change in variety and interactivity is already proving extremely popular.

Police appeal for information about robbery in Whipton

A 19-year-old man was knocked down and robbed in Whipton on Tuesday night.

The victim was held down by three offenders while they took money from his pockets. The men ran off leaving the victim uninjured. The offenders are described as white, male and all aged between 18 and 20. Two of the men were wearing dark clothing, a third man was wearing a blue and cream striped jumper and is described as being stocky with short blond hair with a Birmingham accent. The robbery took place on Summerway in Whipton at around 8.30pm. Police would like to hear from anyone in the area at the time...

Sachin Tendulkar, the great Indian cricketer, has announced his decision to retire from all forms of the game following his 200th test match - the second in a two-match series against the West Indies next month.

The 40-year-old retired from one-day internationals last year.

Royal Mail today launches its Dinosaur Special Stamps issue to mark over 200 years of dinosaur fossil discoveries in what was the UK.

Dinosaurs have often been associated with North America and the exploration of the Wild West that began in the 1870s, but the earliest discoveries of dinosaurs and their contemporary marine and flying reptiles happened in England during the early 1800s.
