Following City’s 4-0 victory away in Scunthorpe, Exeter manager Paul Tisdale was pleased with the result and the performance of his team as the Grecians went level on points with the division’s leaders Chesterfield.

He also conceded that the result didn’t reflect well on the home side, who had attacked with intent and purpose throughout the fixture.

Resolute defending was a must from Tis’s men, and a manful defensive display ensured the Grecians came away with no additional goals in the ‘conceded’ column in the Sky Bet League 2 table.

Ellie gets to be a Mini Lord Mayor for the day

Building the world's largest waterslide and making teachers wear uniforms were just two of the things schoolchildren came up with when asked what they would do if they were Lord Mayor of Exeter.

The competition was organised by Exeter City Council as part of Local Democracy Week (14 to 18 October). It prompted over 80 entries from five schools across Exeter - St Michael's, Exwick Heights, St David’s, The Maynard School, and Bowhill.

Police events in Exeter to crackdown on cycle theft

Cyclists have the chance to find out more about bike security at two police events in Exeter. Local officers are holding two bike marking events to encourage cyclists to mark, register and lock their bikes. They take place at:

  • Exeter Flowerpots Skatepark on Saturday 19 October 2013 between 2pm and 4pm.
  • Waitrose car park, Gladstone Road, Exeter on Thursday 24 October 2013 between 3pm and 5pm.

This week we saw the publication of the three-monthly crime figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). New rapid response vehicles to tackle large-scale fuel and chemical spills

Devon will be getting its first specialised pollution protection vehicle next week (22 October). The vehicle, known as an Environmental Protection Unit (EPU), is specially equipped to handle a number of environmental emergencies such as fuel and chemical spills. Firefighters strike postponed to allow for further negotiations

Update 18 October: Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has just confirmed that the planned strike by the Fire Brigades Union due to take place tomorrow (Saturday 19 October), 6.30pm-11.30pm, has been postponed.

A spokesperson said: "Further negotiations are due to take place in the dispute between the FBU and the Government and further information will be distributed when it is available."

Dick Strawbridge entertains at Exeter Chamber Annual Business Dinner

A great night was had by all at this year’s Exeter Chamber Annual Business Dinner.

The dinner was sponsored by Ashfords Solicitors, Heart Fm and Old Mill Group and was held at The Sandy Park Confrence Centre, where attendees were treated to a champagne reception followed by a four-course feast.
