Exeter City celebrate role of women and girls in football

Exeter City FC will be celebrating the role of women and girls in football at its specially designated One Game One Community (OGOC) home game against Burton Albion (Saturday 26 October).

Each season the Supporters’ Trust-backed Exeter City OGOC group organise a match with an equality and diversity theme. Previous events have put the spotlight on issues including racism, homophobia and disability. This year the focus is on promoting female participation in football.

The choice has been applauded by City’s new OGOC Ambassador, first team goalkeeper Artur Krysiak.

Noel Harrison, best known for his 1968 hit single The Windmills Of Your Mind , has died at home in Devon at the age of 79.

The son of the British actor Sir Rex Harrison, he was also an actor and Olympic athlete.

Housebuilding continues to pick-up across the South West

Housebuilding in the South West is continuing to rebound with chartered surveyors across the region reporting growth, says the latest RICS construction market survey.

During the third quarter of the year, the region’s surveyors reported rises in privately-funded housing projects. Badger surveillance project reveals how TB infects their social networks

Researchers at the University of Exeter and the AHVLA’s National Wildlife Management Centre have shown that the social lives of badgers are related to their risk of infection with bovine tuberculosis (TB). By equipping more than 50 wild badgers with electronic ‘proximity collars’ that automatically tracked their social contacts, PhD Student Nicola Weber from the University of Exeter’s Centre for Ecology and Conservation built a network of contacts across the population and analysed patterns of infection. Woman stabbed in city centre attack

Police have arrested a man after a serious assault on a woman in Exeter this morning (21 October).

Police were alerted just before 10.55am after a woman was stabbed in the Bartholomew Cemetery in Bonhay Road, Exeter.

The police helicopter assisted with the search for the suspect and he was found by officers shortly after.

The 49-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken into police custody. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Exeter’s mid November meeting is when students descend on Haldon Hill to enjoy a free day at the races.

Anyone who is studying, whether its for a degree, or a British Horse Society exam is welcome to attend for free, as long as they possess a valid student card.

A free behind the scenes tour precedes the six races, and Luke Harvey will be offering his tips from the winners’ enclosure too.

Local residents are being challenged to abseil 80 feet down the side of Princesshay Shopping Centre dressed as Santa for charity. Action for Children is seeking daredevils who will raise vital funds for the country’s most vulnerable children, young people and their families by taking part in its Advent Abseil on Saturday 30 November.
