Exeter company reaches finals of Green Energy ‘Oscars’ for sixth year running

Exeter’s SunGift Energy has proven once again that it is an exemplar installer of renewable energy by making the final of the prestigious South West Green Energy Awards for the sixth year in a row.

Russian court begins remand hearing on Greenpeace piracy

A Russian court has begun remand hearings for the Greenpeace activists held on piracy charges today. The activists crewing The Arctic Sunrise- including 6 Britons- were arrested by Russian Coastguard on suspicion of piracy during a protest against oil drilling. The hearing will determine if the activists will remain in custody before a preliminary trial hearing. Two Russian nationals, a Frenchman, a Pole, a New Zealander and a Canadian were all ordered to be held pending the inquiry into the alleged "piracy". Running from 25 to 28 September at Exeter's Northcott Theatre on Streatham Campus, this bitter-sweet comedy written by Willy Russell and starring Mary Elliot and Eddie Holden, is an absolute treat for anyone aged 18 years or above (it contains some strong language). Originally commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company in June 1980 and starring Julie Walters and Mark Kingston, it was immediately a big hit at the box office. Help with the apple harvest at Killerton’s ‘Big Pick Up’

The orchards at Killerton Estate, near Exeter, are full to bursting this autumn.

On the weekends of 5/6 October and 13/14 October, from 11am until 4pm each day, families are invited to head into the orchard to help collect up apples to be pressed for Killerton’s award-winning cider.

The ‘Big Pick Up’ is a free family activity, with mini wheelbarrows for the children and free cider tasters in the orchard for the adults. There is also an apple quiz and members of Killerton’s countryside team will be on hand to help with the answers.
