Save The Globe Inn, Chulmleigh

A group has been formed in Chulmleigh, Devon in an attempt to stop the conversion of their beloved pub into two dwellings.

Hundreds of local people and visitors alike have signed a petition objecting to the current Planning Application 56317.

The final decision will be made known on Monday, 4th November.

The group have also prepared and submitted an application to nominate the pub as an Asset of Community Value. If successful The Globe Inn will remain on the register for five years. This would also mean the community could exercise their right prepare a Right to Bid...

The clocks going back signal the end of summer and it seems the weather has duly obliged.

Youth unemployment is a ‘public health time bomb’ according to new research from the World Health Organisation. New homes needed for children waiting to be adopted

Thirty three children in Devon are currently waiting to be adopted, if adopters were available, says Devon County Council as it launches a campaign to encourage more prospective adopters.

Devon County Council's Devon Adoption service has children ranging in ages from six months to eight years, including sibling groups, waiting for a loving, safe, permanent home.

The service has, this year, cut the length of time it takes to approve adoption applications in a move to make the process simpler, and to encourage more adoptive parents to come forward.

Police officers cautioned a newsagent selling copies of the Private Eye magazine near the Old Bailey that they could be in contempt of court. A news vendor said a policeman asked him to “consider” taking down issues of the satirical magazine due to the proximity to the phone hacking hearings of Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson. Folk Singer Jim Causley pays musical tribute to Charles Causley’s poems

On 6 November, the University of Exeter will be hosting a special gig by renowned Devon folk singer, Jim Causley.

At the gig, Jim, accompanied by guitarist Lukas Drinkwater, will be singing songs he has crafted from the words of poems by Charles Causley, one of Cornwall’s most celebrated 20th century poets and a distant relative of the folk singer. Halloween Poll Reveals Devon Top Scares

A survey has revealed that people in Devon rank horror movies as their number one fright.

The Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership carried out the poll, asking people in Exeter and online at heartofdevon.com what scared them most at Halloween.

Horror movies came out top, with 13% of people citing scary flicks as their biggest fear. Second was spiders, named by 12% of people and joint third was trick or treaters and the mask from the movie Scream, each receiving 6% of the poll.
