Choirs go head-to-head in aid of charity

On Friday 22nd November 2013, at the Centre Spot Bar, Exeter City Football Club, a number of Devon's finest amateur choirs will go head to head before a panel of local judges to win the opportunity to perform at Exeter Racecourse on 19 December 2013.

Our panel of judges include former Exeter Chief, Chris Bentley, Bruce Henderson of Exeter City FC, Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral Choir, Andrew Millington and Deputy Head of the Media and Performing Arts Faculty at Exeter College, Andrew Mcilvain.

Dartmoor youth theatre relives the First World War

With the centenary of the First World War around the corner, Dartmoor’s young people have been delving into Devon’s past. ‘Road to Nowhere’ is a new drama devised by MED Theatre’s Young Company and explores the impact the First World War had on Dartmoor and its communities.

When a nation is called to war, two young tin miners chose separate paths; while one friend faces the front line, another faces internment at Dartmoor prison and accusations of cowardice. Meanwhile Castle Drogo stands deserted and incomplete as the stone masons down their tools and head for the front line....

Students criticise university contact time

A new study on student perceptions by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has highlighted the fact that a vast number of students are unhappy with the number of contact hours they receive at university.

Findings have shown that some have as little as two hours of lectures a week, which seems to be incredibly poor value for money, particularly with the recent rise in tuition fees. Princesshay was packed with people on Thursday night for the big Christmas lights switch on.

Musical Performances by the University of Exeter’s Jazz Orchestra, the South West Music Academy and the Lympstone Military Wives choir counted down to the main event.

Police call for vigilance after attempted child abduction

Police are warning members of the public to be on the lookout for a man in a grey or white van who allegedly tried to pull a primary school girl into his van.

The young girl was able to break free and run for safety without being physically harmed.

A police spokesman said: “We’re treating this incident seriously and are actively searching for this man. This type of incident is rare but obviously it’s of concern.

Premier Communication Electronics (PCE) has been recognised by a new accreditation scheme that promotes professionalism in the installation of on-site radio communications systems.

The new FCS1331 Site Accreditation Scheme from the Federation of Communication Services (FCS) aims “to provide customers with a selection of technically competent, high quality professional providers that install a radio communications system in a proper manner”.

Two local professional firms joined forces to organise two seminars which raised monies for ‘Stop Abuse For Everyone’ (SAFE). Haines Watts Forensic, a national chartered accountancy firm and professional chartered financial planners and wealth advisers Towry, held the joint seminars in central Exeter.
