Police appeal after Honiton pub assualts

Police are appealing for witnesses following two assaults in a Honiton pub. Police would like to speak with anyone who was in the Three Tunns on Saturday night (8 February 2014.) A 46-year-old man suffered slight bruising to both eyes in an assault at around 11.30pm inside the pub. Two men, a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old, were later arrested on suspicion of assault. They remain on police bail while enquiries continue. A 45-year-old woman also suffered slight injury after she was assaulted. Almost winning is just as good for some gamblers

A new study led by the University of Exeter and Swansea University claims researchers have pinpointed the changes in the brain that lead gamblers to react in the same way to near-misses as they do to winning.

The research shows that near-misses are underpinned by increases in the brain’s electrical activity, particularly in the theta frequency range - known to be involved in processing win and loss outcomes.

They found that these increases in theta are linked to both how severe someone’s gambling history is and how susceptible they might be to developing a future gambling...

Motorcycle safety improving in Devon

Devon County Council’s support of motorcycle safety schemes is having a positive impact in reducing collisions involving bikers.

Last year, one biker died on Devon’s roads - the lowest number of biker deaths ever recorded in the county, and down from six in both 2012 and 2011.

However, the Council wants to continue that reduction and make the county even safer for motorcyclists.

£31 million for South West Superfast broadband

The Government has pledged an extra £31.45m to bring superfast broadband to the South West today.

The Government hopes the extra money announced by Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, earlier today will help promote business start-ups and job creation in some of the hardest to reach rural areas in the South West.

Local projects in the South West will now receive additional funding from a £250m pot, with coming in addition to the £1.2bn already invested by central and local Government.

Exeter Racecourse has launched a fabulous new art competition for children aged 11 and under with the overall winner featured on the front page of its racecard on Family Day, April 15.

Exeter want children to come up with vibrant designs which depict the colour and vibrancy of a day at the races, from the brightly coloured silks worn by jockeys, to smiling faces in the crowds.
