Fore Street Closed after Flat Fire

Fore street in Exeter was closed on Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out in a top floor flat. Three appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were at the scene at around 14:08 yesterday (April 17) after being called to the fire involving the window sill and walls of the residence Police closed the road between Market Street and Bartholomew Street while fire crews made the building safe.

Devon's Air Ambulances celebrate their independence

Devon’s Air Ambulances recently celebrated becoming truly independent and self-sufficient.

The Charity, through its operating arm Devon Air Ambulance Trading Company Limited, has been awarded their own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), something the Charity have previously relied on other agencies to hold and operate on their behalf.

£5,000 for East Devon's Rural Communities

Rural communities in East Devon could see up to £5,000 of funding from the district council to build or improve village halls and community shops.

The grants can be used to help refurbish, improve or even build village halls, community shops and community buildings in rural areas (those in towns are not eligible). Police are urging householders to be on their guard following incidents of a phone fraud where unsuspecting victims are duped by people posing as police. In the latest incident on Tuesday, an elderly man from Paignton was duped out of £12,000 by someone posing as a police officer from the Metropolitan Police who claimed that someone had been arrested in possession of his bank cards. This follows another incident in North Devon in March when a Bideford couple were duped out of more than £30,000 by people posing as police. Rob Baxter has hailed Jason Shoemark as a "fantastic servant" after he confirmed the New Zealander will leave Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season.

M5 Closed by Car Fire

Large traffic jams have formed on the M5 Southbound following a car fire near Exeter this morning.

6 Fire engines in attended the scene on M5 junctions 24 Bridgwater to 25 Taunton when a car and caravan became engulfed in flames.

The smoke from the blaze was reported to have made driving difficult due to reduced visibility.

Police initally closed M5 north and southbound J24-25 because of the fire and asked that Motorists find alternative routes due to heavy traffic building in the area.
