Firefighters rescue ten year old girl

Firefighters were today called to rescue a ten year old girl who had become stuck in a tree in Exmouth.

An appliance from Exmouth was mobilised to the incident, at 3.07pm, after a report that a young girl was stuck in a tree at The Crescent in Exmouth.

On arrival at the scene crews rescued one ten year old child from the tree using one short extension ladder.

Road traffic collision involving animals

Emergency Services today attended a road traffic collision on Exeter's M5 North route which saw a Cattle trailer overturn.

The incident, which occured at 2.09pm, resulted in three fire appliances and the Specialist Rescue Team attending.

Although the trailer was stabilised, it is not yet known whether any of the cattle involved were harmed.

Grass cutting on roadside verges

Grass cutting on urban and rural roadside verges is underway across the county.

Devon County Council funds four cuts a year on verges in towns and villages, but the latest cut has been slightly delayed due to recent wet weather. The work is undertaken by contractors, or District, Parish and Town Councils, depending on local arrangements.

Devon County Show CANCELLED

The Devon County Show has been cancelled today, in the interest of public safety.

The decision comes after visitors were turned away from the car parks due to concerns over the muddy conditions.

A spokesman said a combination of heavy use on Thursday and Friday and the overnight rain had left the fields “decimated” making it too difficult to park vehicles in a safe and timely way.

Organisers have described the decision to cancel the show as “heartbreaking”.

Martial arts ace receives prestigious award

Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard, Matt Fiddes, a 7th degree black belt, who runs martial arts schools in Exeter, has received a prestigious martial arts award and has been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Fiddes, 35, is the youngest person to ever have been awarded a Martial Arts Superstar award currently run by the renowned magazine, Martial Arts Illustrated.

Previous winners of similar awards include legends Bruce Lee, Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris.

The National Trust is 'actively discussing' the sale of a Devon village set to go on the market for an estimated £11.5 million, reports say. Bantham village and the accompanying beach , are a popular tourism spot in Mid-Devon was piut up for sale last November as part of a large parcel of family-owned land known for sale by Evans Estates.
