The Devon Art Society are holding their spring exhibition at St Anne’s Hall, Babbacombe until Sun 11 May. The hall will be open every day 10am - 6pm. Admission is free. The Society has a long tradition of exhibiting going back 102 years. They will be showing and selling original paintings, watercolours, pastels, oils, acrylics, mixed media, and more.

Friends of Sharon Bridgman help to reach her fundraising target

Friends of a Devon woman killed in a car crash while on a fundraising cycle challenge have pledged to help raise her target goal of £10,000.

Sharon Bridgman, 38 was killed last Saturday (26 April) after she was struck by a motorist whilst cycling across the Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, with her husband Tim.

Sharon and Tim Bridgman, from Zeal Monachorum near Okehampton, were in Bolivia as part of a round-the-world cycle challenge to raise £10,000 for the international disaster relief charity, Shelterbox.

Their two-year journey had already taken them from Norway...

Rogue traders jailed for conning elderly victims

Two men, who pleaded guilty to fraud and consumer protection offences, have received prison sentences for conning elderly and vulnerable people for thousands of pounds.

Rogue traders, James Doran of Quedgely in Gloucester and Patrick Conners of Hatfield in Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to a variety of offences committed in the summer of 2012 in Plymouth and Exeter.

Trading as South West Drives and Patios, the two approached an elderly Plympton resident to install a block paved driveway at his home.

The Contemporary Craft Festival at Bovey Tracey is one of the key events in the national crafts calendar. Almost 200 makers from all over Britain will be demonstrating, selling and talking about their work.

Bob Hoskins dies aged 71

The actor Bob Hoskins has died aged 71.

Hoskins had retired, from a 30-year career in acting in 2012 following a diagnosis of parkinson's disease in the later year's of his life.

His agent, Clair Dobbs, today announced that he had died of pneumonia in hospital last night (29 April) surrounded by family.

Hoskins rose to national acclaim following his appearence as London gangster-turned-businessman in The Long Good Friday (1980).

Leading divorce lawyer's top honour

A divorce lawyer from the South West has been featured on an independent list of some of the best advisors in private wealth management in the world, for the 6th consecutive year.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) housing officers and cleansing operatives moved in this week to clean up a flat vacated by a tenant after a court granted the council possession of the premises.
