A meeting at County Hall, Exeter, has drawn around 100 members of the public from communities across Devon, with a common interest in helping to support local public services.

Visitors to the event, at the hut in Belmont Park from 2pm-5pm, will be able to come together, to step back 100 years and learn about the Newtown of old, to hear about the impact of the war on this small community and to celebrate the importance and value of being part of the community today.
The community has been involved in a community bunting project, making 118 individual flags to signify those that died.
Neil Parish MP has welcomed new figures showing that 310 fewer people are relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance in Tiverton and Honiton compared to this time last year, with the number of people in work in the South West up by 139,000 since 2010.
Since 2010 the number of people on unemployment benefits is down by 371– a 38% drop.
Jobs are being created in Tiverton and Honiton in places like the Tiverton-based linear motion manufacturer HepcoMotion who have launched an extensive apprenticeships programme.

Firefighters in England and Wales will today come to the end of eight consecutive days of strike action over pensions, however other forms of industrial action will continue from this evening with no planned end date.
