One of Exeter’s most important advice charities is appealing for volunteers.

The main role of the assessors is to meet clients on their first visit to the bureau and decide how best to help them.

John Pill, Exeter CAB training officer, said: ‘We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with people and can spare up to six to eight hours a week.

He added: "These volunteers conduct the first interview with the client. They identify the client's issues...

NHS staff urged to apply for Mary Seacole Programme

It is aimed at those who either work in the NHS or provide NHS-funded care, and is equally relevant to clinical and support roles. Poultry link to 244,000 food poisoning cases

New research published by the Food Standards Agency gives the most detailed picture yet of how many people suffer from food poisoning in the UK every year and how much food poisoning can be attributed to different foods.

The findings are important as official data for food poisoning cases significantly under-estimates how big the problem is, as only the most serious cases get reported. Most people do not seek treatment from their GP, and not all GPs carry out tests for specific pathogens, so these unreported cases are not captured in routine surveillance data.

The data from...

Sculptor Tom Hyde, based in north Cornwall, will be on site all day creating a wooden animal more than six feet high. Visitors can add on and weave in other tree and plant...

PORE people pushed out of countryside

Want to buy a house in the country? The average worker will need a 150% pay rise People living and working in the countryside are being pushed out, as house prices in rural areas soar, second homes lie empty and populations become older and more vulnerable. Figures released by the National Housing Federation to mark Rural Housing Week show rural areas have become some of the least affordable places to live in the country. On average house prices in rural areas are 11 times the average salary, meaning potential homebuyers working in these areas would need to see wages rise by a staggering...

Devon County Councillor Roger Croad has thanked local prize winning author Kevin Brooks for donating £500 of books to his childhood library at Pinhoe, Exeter.

The Exeter-born author thanked the judges and those...
