British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public’s help as investigations continue into the theft of a mobile phone from a train at Exeter St Davids rail station.

Investigating officer, PC Stewart Warne, said: “The victim, an 18-year-old man from Exeter, was travelling on the 1405hrs service from Topsham on Thursday (3 July).

“He realised he had left his white, iPhone 5 on the seat on the train after he had got off the service.

South West Coast Path secures £1m investment

The South West Coast Path Association has been successful in their bid to the Coastal Communities Fund to secure £1 million investment in the South West Coast Path.

This project will repair, improve and promote the South West Coast Path (SWCP). Funds will help with 32 urgent repair works to the path, in addition to a range of projects providing information boards and signage, events and marketing. This will create and safeguard around 788 jobs from construction, management and tourism generated by the path.

There's still time to take part in a survey to find out more about the cost of living in Exeter.

Employers are particularly needed for their feedback.

The University of Exeter is carrying out research on behalf of Exeter City Council into the impact that low wages and high costs of living has on people living in Exeter. The closing date for submissions is 15 August.

Exeter firm invests in own solar energy

Global electrical and electronic components manufacturer Carling Technologies has completed work on a solar energy installation at its European headquarters in Devon that is expected to reduce the site’s annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 383 tonnes. The Harry Cunningham Trust, which raises money for Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital’s neonatal unit, is staging a glitzy celebrity ball, open to the public, in Exeter’s Sandy Park.

Research links diabetes and mouth cancer

People with diabetes are at ‘significantly’ greater risk of developing head and neck cancer, according to new research.

The study discovered that groups of patients with diabetes are almost 50 per cent more likely to develop the disease compared to those without diabetes.

In the UK, 3.2 million people have diabetes. A further 630,000 people are predicted to have Type 2 diabetes which has not yet been diagnosed. Berry Recruitment counts on staff for fundraising

Research into the fight against cancer has been given a boost by staff at the Exeter branch of a national specialist recruitment company.

They were among 150 dedicated employees from Berry Recruitment's 27 offices nationwide to rise to a fundraising challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK.
