Residents are being warned by police regarding unscrupulous salesmen. Police have received a number of calls relating to door to door salesmen operating in Mid Devon and East Cornwall. The people involved often wear home-made ID badges and purport to be part of a scheme aimed at helping ex–offenders.
When challenged they are unable to provide any verifiable evidence that a scheme exists. Essentially they go from door to door, often targeting elderly residents and state that they are ex prisoners having been reformed.

The conference is the first wave in building awareness for partners to try and combat the growing issues of slavery across the South West region. Police arrested two men following a pursuit on the M5 on Wednesday night. At around 11.45pm on Wednesday (15 October) traffic officers attempted to routinely stop a Ford Fiesta motor vehicle which was travelling into Devon on the M5. The vehicle failed to stop and continued at speed southbound along the M5.
Officers, supported by the force helicopter, pursued the vehicle and boxing tactics were used in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop and rammed police vehicles in an attempt to escape. During the pursuit items were thrown from the vehicle.
A new flood defence scheme for Exeter has been given a major boost - a £3 million cash injection from Exeter City Council.
The City Council has put its "money where its mouth is" and handed over a £3 million cheque to the Environment Agency as its contribution to the £30 million scheme.
Work has already begun on the multi-million pound scheme, with the aim to complete the work by late 2017.
Once finished, the scheme will reduce flood risk to over 3,000 residential and commercial properties in the city.

In line with the national trend, the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in Devon fell in September and is now the lowest level on record in the County. It now stands at 4,233 claimants, or 0.9% of the working age population.
Over the past year the number of people aged 24 and under claiming JSA has also decreased from 1,810 to 980, which is 23.2% of the total claimants in Devon, although this figure is up slightly from 955 in August.
At 0.9% of the working age population, the Devon claimant rate is significantly below the national average of 2.3%....

A 12 foot community yarn-bomb has exploded in the orchard at Killerton National Trust estate near Exeter.
The culprits are an army of 50 knitters and pom-pom bombers from across Devon and as far flung as Oregon in the United States.
Their combined efforts have burst Killerton’s retired apple tree back to life by entirely covering it in 400 individually knitted leaves, 50 apple-pompoms and hand-knitted woolly wildlife including game birds, squirrels, hedgehogs, frogs and a swarm of Killerton bees.
The yarn-bomb will be on proud display throughout the Killerton Cider...
