Christmas turkey farmers celebrate 75 years

Father and son farming partnership Mike and Tim Leach of Glebelands Farm, Upton Pyne celebrates 75 years of rearing top-quality turkeys and geese specifically for the Christmas market with the launch of a new website called ‘TastyBird’.

Free-range bronze turkeys and geese roam freely through the fields and are fed with natural cereals from the farm with no growth promoters or antibiotics. White turkeys are happily housed in straw-bedded barns with space to walk around and all poultry are reared to full maturity and hung for up to 14 days to give a fuller flavour.

Changes to management of city proposed

Changes look set to be made to the way Exeter manages its High Street and City Centre shops and businesses.

Plans have been announced to dissolve Exeter's City Centre Management Partnership and instead concentrate all efforts on creating a Business Improvement District.

Letters have been sent to all members of the Partnership proposing that it be dissolved on 28 November. Cllr Rosie Denham, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, said: "Devon County Council has ended its £20,000-a-year contribution to the Partnership. 'Courier fraud' probe arrests

Zephyr, the south west’s regional organised crime unit, has made arrests in Scotland as part of its ongoing probe into courier fraud.

Detectives from Zephyr were joined by officers from Police Scotland to execute search warrants on properties in the Castlemilk and Crosshill areas of the city of Glasgow.

They are the first arrests made north of the border and follow arrests throughout the south west and in East London.

Ottery's flaming fundraiser success

Crowds of Ottery locals enjoyed a themed feast at the Rusty Pig in Yonder Street during this year’s Tar Barrels, helping to raise funds for the Carnival Committee.

£5 from every ticket sold for the Guy Fawkes and Gunpowder event went into the fundraising pot. This was added to the proceeds from the Rusty Pig’s catering van ‒ which sold around 150 free range sausages on the night ‒ amounting to an impressive £500.

“I’ve run the outside catering before, but this is the first year that I have opened the restaurant,” explained Robin Rea, owner of the ethical restaurant....

Exeter researchers go to town with badgers and meerkats

A team of researchers from the University of Exeter are heading to London today (14 November) to showcase their research on badgers and meerkats as part in the Great British Bioscience Festival.

Seaton Jurassic information day

A drop-in information day will be held on Thursday 27 November in Seaton Town Hall for people to find out more about Seaton Jurassic, the new visitor attraction for the Jurassic Coast. Professor Sir Steve Smith touched down in India this week as part of a delegation led by Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Minister for Universities and Science, to attend the India-UK Science Innovation Council meeting and the UK-India Bilateral Education Forum.

His seven day visit will also involve giving the keynote speech to open the second day of the global FICCI Higher Education Summit 2014 on 14 November and hosting a University of Exeter alumni and supporters reception in New Delhi.
