Run reaches 2,222 mile finale in Exeter

Twenty-one-year-old Gilbert Toby Ip aims to complete an incredible year-long challenge in Exeter High Street on New Year’s Eve.

Gilbert, an ex Student of Queen’s College Taunton who is currently studying at Bath University, set himself the enormous target of running 2014 miles during 2014, all in aid of Help for Heroes and The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

Having completed 2014 miles during early December he simply moved his goal to 2,222 miles - culminating in a staggering 100km ultra-marathon on New Year’s Eve.

Exeter school’s wildlife garden gets new lease of life

Volunteers from EDF Energy have helped Devon Wildlife Trust improve a wildlife garden at an Exeter school, as part of the ongoing Exeter Wild City project.

The garden at Stoke Hill Infants School now has much improved disabled access while new homes have been created for wildlife including beetles, newts and frogs.

Fire crews tackle blaze in Exeter home

Firefighers were called to a house in Pinhoe, Exeter shortly after 7pm yesterday.

One fire appliance from Middlemoor and two fire appliances from Danes Castle were sent to a report of a fire in the dining room of a house in Hummingbird Close.

A spokesman for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said the curtains and carpet were severely damaged by smoke and lightly damaged by heat.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus, one safety jet, one covering jet, one hose reel jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan and thermal image camera to deal with the incident...

Recycle your real Christmas trees

Teignbridge Council is offering residents the chance to recycle their real Christmas trees for free.

People can take advantage of the many ‘free tree’ recycling collection points on offer across the district. In Teignbridge last year, over 4,000 real Christmas trees were recycled and turned into compost.

Study examines websites' password practices

Global IT giants including Amazon and LinkedIn could be doing far more to raise awareness of the need for better password practices among their users.

Analysis by Professor Steve Furnell, Director of the Centre for Security, Communications and Network Research at Plymouth University, looked into the password security controls in place among ten of the world’s most visited websites.
