Exeter students scoop global technology prize

Students from the University of Exeter have stormed to victory in an international competition, with their innovative app that allows users to lock and unlock doors with their mobile phone.

The team of Computer Science undergraduates secured victory in the Project Arduino competition, organised by leading engineering and technology company Thales, following a worldwide public vote.

Learning about disability in Devon through drama

Local writer Clive Essame is working with charity CEDA (Community Equality Disability Action) to develop an exciting play set in the African wilderness. The play is about acceptance and is told by the characters all of which are African animals.

The play Impisi will be performed at Exmouth Pavilion on March 12th at 7pm.

The family of Samuel Crocker, who died following a road traffic collision, have paid tribute to him.

Samuel's family said: "On Saturday afternoon our life was turned upside down when our darling Samuel was knocked down while on his way to visit his friend.

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park has announced its employee of the year award to two members of staff.

Tim Leathers and Michael Payne-Hilton have been awarded the accolade for their hard work and commitment at the Park throughout 2014. The Employees of Year have been awarded with all-expenses paid trip to Disney World, Orlando.

Fraud prevention efforts continue

Devon and Cornwall Police is supporting a fraud awareness campaign being launched across the region today.

The Home Office funded ‘Spot It, Stop It’ campaign aims to raise awareness of various scams people may fall prey to, particularly doorstep fraud and telephone and online scams.

There were 8,600 reports of fraud in Devon and Cornwall last year resulting in the loss of around £9 million.

Victims are usually aged between 61 and 90.

At Living Coasts, the theme for 2015 is Dive & Flight. Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium is celebrating everything that flies in the air or dives in the water. Staff will use the theme in talks, quizzes, craft workshops and trails.

At Easter there will be an Easter Egg trail, live chicks and a crazy Easter Bunny Dive Show. The cute chicks will be in Front of House between Good Friday and Easter Monday (3rd to 6th April).
