The garden and parkland at Killerton estate near Exeter, is one of the top places in the Southwest to see early spring blooms; and this year they are putting on quite a show.
Visitors are flocking to Killerton to herald the end of winter and see the carpets of cyclamen and swathes of snowdrops before they fade. Flashes of pink, purple, yellow and white can be found all over the grounds, with the magnolia, crocuses and daffodils also springing into life.
On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, visitors can come along for a snowdrop weekend to help the Killerton gardeners plant 12,...
University vice-chancellors were criticised today for enjoying significant pay rises as staff endured real-terms pay cuts and rises in pension contributions.
New figures revealed that Sir Steve Smith of the University of Exeter, was the fourth highest paid in the country with a package of £386,000.
The University and College Union said the lack of self-awareness from university bosses, who pleaded poverty when it came to paying staff, was an embarrassment to higher education. Pay and benefits for university leaders increased, on average, by more than £5,000 in 2011-12, with...
University fencers dominated the results table last Sunday as fencers from across Devon battled for the title of 2015 Devon Sabre Champion. Misha Jessel-Kenyon won the Men's Sabre and Izabela Sosnowska took the Women's title.
The best ever turnout for the annual Sabre contest - hosted at Newton Abbot - signals a growth in popularity for Sabre as the rarest of the 3 weapons in modern fencing (Foil and Épée being more common).
Sabre is quick and dynamic - you can score a hit with any part of the blade and the very softest of contact is all it takes. Electronic score...

This would be the culmination of the council’s long-standing Moving and Improving project.
If Cabinet agrees, the matter will be analysed by a joint meeting of two scrutinising committees the following day (12 March) and a final decision will be made by Full Council at a special meeting on 25 March. The timings have been set to avoid this major decision getting caught...
Dean Mumm believes Exeter Chiefs can ill afford to let their standards slip when they tackle winless London Welsh in the Aviva Premiership this Saturday (3pm).
The Devon club moved back into the division’s top three last Saturday following their first-ever top flight win over local rivals Bath, but this weekend will come face to face against an Exiles side who have lost all 16 Premiership games to date.
Henry Slade’s 11-point haul with the boot, plus Will Chudley’s late try, ensured the Chiefs of a 16-6 victory against a Bath side, who in turn countered with two penalties...
