National Real Vanilla Day is coming to Exmouth on October 17 when a host of cookery experts will show what can be done with the exotic flavour.

For the free family event, East Devon vanilla company, LittlePod is collaborating with the award-winning Bumble and Bee Tea Rooms. Exmouth Town Council has pitched in with support for the use of the adjacent Manor Gardens.

Village celebrates opening of new homes

Residents of Sandford, near Crediton, are celebrating after the official opening of affordable new homes in the village. Summerfield Developments have recently completed work on the Creedy View development set in the Mid-Devon countryside.

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has set out his plans for managing the likely £54m budget reduction faced by Devon and Cornwall Police. “With such an extreme budget reduction we will have to completely rethink the delivery of policing services in Devon and Cornwall.” said Mr Hogg “At this time, there is much that we do not know, but it is right that we start to plan so that important actions can be taken at the appropriate times.” The OPCC’s budget prediction is based on two key factors. District Council consults local people for their views on the creation of a new West Hill parish council

East Devon District Council is to begin asking local residents for their views on whether West Hill should have its own parish council separate from Ottery St Mary Town Council. A first period of public consultation – part of a ‘Community Governance Review’- is due to start 12 October 2015 and will conclude on 12 January 2016. Hotel donates TVs to Foundation charities

A popular Exeter hotel has donated television sets to a charity fundraising body, after undergoing a major refurbishment.

The Mercure Exeter Southgate underwent a £2.5m re-furbishment earlier this year. The hotel donated 20 television sets, which were previously in rooms, to the Exeter Foundation.

As a fundraising body, the Exeter Foundation offered the televisions to its member charities on a first come first served basis. The televisions were snapped up within 2 hours by a number of different charities.

Cats Protection’s nine branches in Devon are desperately looking for new volunteers to help continue its work with unwanted and abandoned cats.
