Essential bridge refurbishment is due to start on the A361 on Monday 28 September and is expected to take around four months.
Devon County Council will be replacing the failed expansion joint on the River Exe Viaduct, west of Bolham Roundabout in Tiverton, while also waterproofing the bridge deck, which is required every 25 to 30 years. Work is expected to be completed by January 2016.
Since November 2014, a temporary cover plate has been in place on the expansion joint and speed restrictions have been imposed to help prevent further damage to the structure.
The first grant to be awarded by, a newly founded trust, the MAXIMUS Foundation UK has been made to St Petrock’s, Exeter’s charity for people who are homeless.
“The trust is set up to give one-off grants to small community based charities whose work means something to our employees or resonates with what we do as a business,” explains Jude Hartley, administrator of MAXIMUS Foundation UK, “and St Petrock’s was nominated by one of our Exeter employee, Trish Leworthy.”

Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA) based in Exeter has today launched a new fundraising pack which encourage potential new supporters to raise money for the disability charity.
Craig Bowden from CEDA, comments: “For a long time now we have been considered a great secret and its now we begin to let the secret out. Police investigating a sexual assault, which happened on a train between Taunton and Exeter on 15 July, have arrested a man in connection with the matter.
The 36-year-old from Bideford was arrested yesterday (23 September) on suspicion of sexual assault. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The man came forward following a media appeal to trace a person detectives wanted to speak to about the incident. Officers would like to thank all those who shared the appeal.

Killerton Estate has won four national awards for its local produce in the Fine Farm Produce Awards which recognise the quality and sustainability of the food, drink and produce grown on National Trust land and farms.

Over 80% of British consumers reported feelings of happiness and contentment when they purchase goods or services from small and independent businesses, compared to just 53% who buy from large chains, according to new research.
This comes from a new survey of 2,000 UK adults by Avery WePrint that reveals a consumer trust issue when it comes to dealing with large corporations, with only 6% saying they consider CEOs of large corporations to be ‘trustworthy’. In comparison, small business owners have been described as hard-working (75%) and honest (31%).
