Uncovering secrets from Exeter’s hidden past

Secrets from Exeter’s hidden past will be uncovered in a major new archaeology project.

Lead by experts from the University of Exeter, the latest technology will be applied to RAMM’s collections to reveal where the city’s food and ceramics came from during 1st to the 16th centuries. The four-year study will show the extent of trading networks throughout the period and Exeter’s changing role within the region.

ROC Active Exeter take an Avocet amble

As part of promoting “Avocet Ambles”, self-guided walks from the Avocet Line, the Exeter – Exmouth branch line, the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership recently took members of the ROC Active walking group for a day trip, travelling from Exeter St Thomas station to Topsham for a leisurely walk and lunch.

ROC Active is a charity which enables adults with a learning disability to take part in a wide variety of sports, gym, and swim sessions.

They organise a weekly walking group from their base at the Riverside Leisure Centre at Cowick Street, Exeter.

Free child care places for two-year-olds

Devon County Council is encouraging parents to take up the opportunity to have free child care for their two-year-olds.

The Council provides funding to childcare and early years education providers for families in receipt of certain benefits so they can have a free place.

The Council says that many parents are unaware of the funding, or of the benefits that child care can provide.

In an effort to make people more aware, the Council is writing to families who are eligible for the funding to offer them free childcare.
