Afternoon tea raises cash for Devon Freewheelers

A tea party held in Buckerell raised over £550 for blood bike charity, Devon Freewheelers.

It was organised by village residents Jen Palfrey and Soo Sims on behalf of the Buckerell Community Association.

Over 90 people from the East Devon village, from the oldest to the youngest residents, turned out to support the event, enjoying waitress service, cream teas and a wonderful array of homemade cakes.

“We’ve organised similar events before, and this was the best yet – we’re bowled over by the amount raised,” said Jen.

Cullompton RFC U16s train with Exeter Chiefs stars

Nationwide fuel supplier Watson Fuels last week gave Cullompton Rugby Club U16s the opportunity to train with Exeter Chiefs’ stars Don Armand and Kai Horstmann. The training session took place on Tuesday 26th April, under the floodlit astro-turf next to the Chiefs’ Sandy Park stadium. Alison Hernandez elected new police and crime commissioner

Alison Hernandez (Conservative) has been elected as the new police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall (IoS). She won with a majority of 3,794 over Gareth Derrick (Labour) after the second round of voting*. Alison will officially take over from Tony Hogg on 12 May. Bradninch excavation: Police confirm 'nothing of significance' found

Police investigating the garden at the former home of a paedophile couple, who knew serial killers Fred and Rose West, have confirmed that nothing of significance has been found and the investigation is now complete.

Excavations began on Tuesday (3 May) in the rear garden of a bungalow in Bradnich, near Cullompton, following historic intelligence linked to the former occupants of the council-owned property, David and Pauline Williams.

Appeal after woman racially abused in Exeter

Police are seeking witnesses after a woman was racially abused in Exeter on Bank Holiday Monday night [2 May].

The woman, who was wearing a hijab, was approached by a man while she waited at the bus stop outside Evans store in the High Street around 9.50pm.

He subjected her to verbal abuse using racist language before following her onto the bus using threatening behaviour.

The victim, in her 20s and from Exeter, was left shaken and distressed by the incident.
