Card payments not working at council car parks

Motorists parking in Exeter City Council pay and display car parks are being advised that facilities to pay by credit card are not currently working.

The City Council apologised for any inconvenience caused and is doing everything possible to rectify the problem. A spokesman said that a company working on behalf of the Council was trying to fix the problem, which was related to telecommunications, but it could take a number of days to resolve.

ENGLAND and Exeter Chiefs rugby star Jack Nowell has discovered that a family member was among the soldiers who fell on the first day of the battle of the Somme and who will be commemorated in an astonishing centenary project this summer. The 19240 Shrouds of the Somme project aims to remember all 19,240 allied soldiers who died on 1st July 1916. Warning over rogue traders offering driveway work

Police in Exeter and East Devon are warning residents about rogue traders, claiming to be from Devon County Council, who are offering to tarmac driveways.

A number of residents, some elderly, have been approached this week by a number of men with Birmingham accents.

They were dressed as builders in high visibility clothing and told residents that they had excess tarmac which they could use to tarmac driveways at a reduced rate.

The fifth TEDxExeter conference was by far the biggest yet.

The local audience doubled in size compared with last year and the day reached audiences online as far away as Mongolia, Colombia, Lithuania and Korea as well as the United States, India, Germany, and Saudi Arabia

Molly Batchelor, a student at Exeter’s Maynard School, and her crew returned from last weekend’s Junior Inter Regional Rowing Regatta in Nottingham on the crest of a wave having been placed 5th nationally.

“I’m really pleased with this result as the only ones that beat us were four groups of professionals who are so high up in the leagues that they are banned from some regattas altogether! So it was excellent to get into the top six and we posted some really good times as well.”
