Two leading visitor attractions in Exeter have scooped top awards from an online review site.

TripAdvisor, which is the world’s biggest online travel review website, has awarded its coveted Certificate of Excellence to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) and the Underground Passages.

Now in its sixth year, the TripAdvisor award celebrates excellence in hospitality and is given only to services that consistently achieve great reviews on TripAdvisor by continually delivering a high quality customer experience.

2016 is the second year in a row that RAMM and the Underground Passages have won the accolade.

Both are run by Exeter City Council and Lead Councillor for Economy & Culture, Cllr Rosie Denham, said: “I'm delighted that both RAMM and the Underground Passages have been recognised again, this is a fantastic achievement.

"This is great recognition for the staff and volunteers who deliver these services and once again highlights what an amazing city Exeter is and what a variety of attractions we have to offer visitors as well as those who live and work in here.”

RAMM is one of Exeter City Council’s flagship services. Stunning displays reveal Devon and Exeter’s rich history and global connections. Exotic animals, birds and insects delight children and a changing programme of exhibitions and events means there is likely to be something different to see on every visit. Free entry gives everyone the freedom to visit many times and to stay any length of time. RAMM is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Exeter’s Underground Passages which date from the 14th century are open throughout the year. A visit includes a chance to view a fascinating exhibition, a film presentation and a guided tour underground. The original use of these unique passages was to bring clean drinking water into the city through lead pipes from natural springs lying outside the city walls.

Cllr Denham said she would like to thank all of the visitors who had taken time to complete a review on TripAdvisor.

"There's nothing greater than a seal of approval from your customers,” she added.

Heather Leisman, Vice President of Industry Marketing, TripAdvisor, said: "With the Certificate of Excellence, TripAdvisor honours hospitality businesses that have consistently received strong praise and ratings from travellers.

“This recognition helps travellers identify and book properties that regularly deliver great service. TripAdvisor is proud to play this integral role in helping travellers feel more confident in their booking decisions.”

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor takes into account the quality and quantity of reviews and opinions submitted by travellers on their website over a 12-month period. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
