English National Opera debut for former Exeter Chorister

An opera singer from Devon who started his musical life as a Chorister in Exeter Cathedral Choir made his debut with English National Opera earlier this week.

David Webb, who sang with the Cathedral Choir in the 1990s, made his ENO debut in Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde on 9th June in a new production conducted by Edward Gardner. Topsham ladies rugby team are looking to recruit new members.

Ladies (18+) come along and try some non-contact rugby at their 'Pitch up and Play' session on Wed 29th June 7- 8 pm.

The session will involve fitness and some basic rugby drills (non-contact).

It's an ideal opportunity to come down, meet the team, make new friends.

National Park team make repairs to medieval settlement

Dartmoor National Park Conservation Works Team has been busy this week, working with archaeologists to make repairs to the nationally important medieval settlement at Hound Tor.

Repairs are needed periodically to replace stones which have been dislodged by cattle rubbing, erosion or human interference. The work involves identifying where stones originated in the walls of the buildings and repositioning them in their original locations – occasionally using discrete amounts of glue to ensure the stones remain in place.

Exciting new images have been released, showing how Exeter’s new bus station could look.

The images will go on display at an exhibition on Tuesday (14 June) at Exeter Guildhall from 8am until 8pm.

The new, modern bus station will replace the tired and dated bus station in Paris Street and will be built alongside the new St Sidwell’s Point leisure complex.

Cllr Phil Bialyk, Lead Councillor for Sport and Health & Wellbeing, urged people to get along to Tuesday’s exhibition and see the new designs.

Bumper bonus for Exeter law firm staff

Staff at a leading South West law firm were today celebrating news of a bumper annual bonus. Stephens Scown LLP, which has offices in Exeter, St Austell and Truro, informed its staff that this year’s bonus will be £3,000 – more than double the amount last year when the average payout was £1,300. The bonus applies to everyone, regardless of grade, from secretarial and admin staff up to fee-earning lawyers. Last call for commuters to help steer traffic congestion project

Researchers at the University of Exeter who are working on an initiative to curb traffic congestion in and around the city are issuing a final call for help from commuters.

Over 2,000 people have already responded to an online survey at www.commute-exeter.com which is aimed at anyone over the age of 17 who commute into or within Exeter to work or for study.

Business School appoints new Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean

Professor David Bruce Allen has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean at the University of Exeter Business School.

Professor Allen joins Exeter from the University of Surrey, where he is currently the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). His appointment at Exeter is pending formal ratification of the appointment at the Council meeting on July 7, and he is expected to start his new role in September.
