Miss Exeter may be in the running for the title of Miss Great Britain later this year but she is swapping the glamour for a mud pack of a different kind.

Louise Curtis now has her sights set on raising money for charity, by taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Pretty Muddy at Exeter’s Westpoint show ground on Saturday 23 July.

The administrator and part time beauty therapist was crowned Miss Exeter earlier this year.

Being a self- employed beauty therapist first gave her the idea off applying for a place in the beauty competition. She says she is passionate about joining the ranks of Race for Life’s pink army and is encouraging other women to join her.

Race for Life Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive obstacle course – with lashings of mud.

It’s not about being fit or fast – Race for Life Pretty Muddy is about sisterhood and overcoming obstacles together as participants of all ages and abilities scramble, clamber, climb or crawl their way to the finish to help beat cancer sooner.

Louise said: “I am so looking forward to getting muddy for a change, people are so used to seeing me looking well groomed!

“We all know someone who has been touched by cancer and having taken part in Barnstaple’s half marathon and Race for Life, I wanted to do something a little different.

“I hope the muddier I get, the more money I’ll raise. It doesn’t matter who crosses the finish line first. It’s about raising money for research which will save lives.”

Ruth Chamings, Cancer Research UK’s Devon Events Manager, said: “We’re grateful to Louise for accepting our Pretty Muddy mission and hope she inspires as many women as possible to join her.

“Pretty Muddy promises all the fun and camaraderie of our much loved 5k and 10k events – with lashings of mud, sweat and cheers.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK to advance research which is helping to save the lives of more men, women and children across the South West.
