Top award for Exeter researcher

A zoo biologist from the University of Exeter has won a prestigious gold award for his research into flamingo friendships.

Paul Rose, a PhD student in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, won top prize in the annual British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) awards for best zoo research project in the UK.

Exeter School on a mission for charity

Exeter School pupils, parents, staff, friends and alumni are putting their best wheel forward to raise £50,000 for charity.

The team of nineteen riders supported by ten crew, two minibuses, and a van plan will cycle 904.8 miles and 46,678 vertical feet over ten days to raise money for the Children's Society and The Janine Di-Vincenzo Foundation.

Appeal for volunteers to work on historic tramway

Join Dartmoor National Park Ranger Simon Lee on Sunday 12 June as he leads a team of volunteers to continue working on the popular Templer Way walking route near Haytor. The day runs from 10:30 until 3:30 and starts at the National Park Visitor Centre, Haytor.

The Templer Way follows the route by which granite was taken from the quarries in the Haytor area during the 1800s on an 18 mile journey toTeignmouth on the south coast.

Exeter Northcott Theatre is delighted to announce its exciting autumn 2016 season.

This season the theatre has cut its £2 transaction booking fee. Instead, customers who want their tickets posted will be asked to pay a small charge to cover postage costs.

Cars damaged in suspected arson attacks

Police are appealing for anyone with information about a series of car fires in Exeter this morning (9 June 2016) to contact them.

Police were made aware just after 2am that two cars were on fire in Church Terrace. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguish the fires and no further damage was caused to other vehicles in the road.

The fire service was already dealing with another car on fire in a driveway of a property in Magdalen Road, and another car was reported on fire in Fore Street, Heavitree.

Helmores cover Coast to Coast for charity

As part of their fundraising challenge for Children’s Hospice South West, Helmores Estate Agents are organising a cycling, walking and running journey from Ilfracombe to Exmouth.

Following the Tarka Trail, roads and the Exe Estuary cycle route members of the Helmores team, supported and sponsored by local businesses and the public, will be completing the 93 mile route in relays on Tuesday the 14th June. In total they hope to cover over 350 miles between them and raise plenty of money for a worthy cause.
