Griffin Chartered Accountants has taken occupancy of the historic Globe building in Honiton, giving it a £30,000 makeover along the way.

Griffin founders, Misty Nickells and Graham Higgins took the plunge after working from a home office for the past 18 months.

Graham said: “We were intrigued by the history behind the Globe façade; it has had a chequered past, with stints as a public house, a Jehova’s Witnesses hall, a tattoo parlour and antiques shop.

Probably most contemporary English nationalist movements are associated with support for right-of-centre economic and social policies. There is an assumption, perhaps not surprisingly after the EU membership Referendum, that English nationalism is racist, inward-looking and ethno-phobic. Nationalism is right- wing, ugly and nasty.

But what if there was another form of nationalism that instead of being close-minded and narrow, was open-hearted and generous? What if there was party or movement south of Hadrian’s Wall that reflected the progressiveness of the nationalists in Scotland...

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has announced the sale of The Old Thatch Inn in Cheriton Bishop, Exeter to a new entrant into the sector.

Third of working families in SW one pay cheque away from losing their home

Over a third of working families in the South West could not afford to pay their rent or mortgage for more than a month if they lost their job, new figures from Shelter reveal today.

With little or no personal savings to fall back on, the Shelter and YouGov study found that this means a staggering 318,000 working families in the region could be just one paycheque away from losing their home.

Thirteen acres of land in Exeter sold for new housing

Thirteen acres of land in Exeter has been sold to housebuilder Barratt Homes and will provide 248 new homes of which 62 will be affordable.

Exeter and Bristol-based developer, Eagle One, has netted £13 million from the sale of the first phase of land at Tithebarn Green in Exeter.

The development of this part of Tithebarn Green will provide an 18 acre country park as part of a planning agreement. The park will be to the north of the housing, close to the Pinn Brook, and provide a public area for walking, cycling and leisure activities as well as supporting wildlife.

Housing repossession up in Exeter

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is expressing its concern at a 46% increase in the number of Housing Association repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the quarter-ending 30th June 2016.

This is in comparison with the same period last year.

Across all housing sectors, there was an overall increase of 21% in the number of cases listed. Max heads to National Youth Powerboat Final

15-year-old powerboater Max Batson from Lympstone has raced through to the national final of the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship for the third time.

Max was one of eight youngsters aged between 8 and 16 who demonstrated their powerboating skills in the SW area final which took place at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth last Saturday (6 August). Max’s winning time in the 13 – 16 age group was 1:25:19 - over two seconds faster than his last area final win in 2014.
