World’s largest behavioural ecology conference comes to Exeter

The University of Exeter will host global research leaders in the field of behavioural ecology through the International Society for Behavioural Ecology (ISBE) conference on July 28 to August 3.

Roads re-open after Sidwell Street fire

A few road closures remain in place this afternoon as emergency services deal with the aftermath of a serious fire in Exeter city centre.

Fifteen appliances from across Devon, including one from Somerset, were called to the Richer Sounds in Sidwell Street at around 1.45pm yesterday, after smoke was reported to be billowing from the store.

Scaffolding will be erected to secure the building.

Police in Teignbridge are appealing for witnesses in relation to a robbery that occurred on Monday 25th July 2016, in the area of Bitton Avenue, Teignmouth.

Shortly before 8pm a woman, who was walking alone, was approached from behind by a man who attempted to steal her handbag, knocking her to the floor in the process.

Following a short struggle, the suspect made off empty handed, in the direction of Park Hill. The woman, age 17, suffered a slight shoulder injury.

New device helps Exeter lawyers slash fuel bills and CO2

Solicitors and legal staff in Exeter are seeing dramatic improvements in driving styles thanks to their participation in a new driver behaviour trial being run by Lightfoot®.

The pilot, which began in May, involves over 20 staff from Michelmores, Ashfords LLP and Foot Anstey.

Sandy Park's popular Comedy at the Park returns on Friday, 30th September from 7pm.

The evening will be MC-ed by Simon Feilder, who began his career as weather presenter on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast. First of the three comics is character comedian Milo McCabe, who will be followed by critically acclaimed Stephen Carlin. The evening's headliner is Junior Simpson, a circuit favourite who has boundless joy and exuberance.

Holne Park House and CRS Adventures, based on the River Dart Country Park in Devon, ran a two-day training programme for the Exeter Chiefs in preparation for the squad’s pre-season campaign.

The action-packed programme was centred around team-building and involved an array of timed challenges; from tractor pulling, dismantling and rebuilding a canon, to raft racing and a multi-terrain log carry.

Each challenge lasted approximately 45 minutes – and ensured that each team member was challenged both physically and mentally to prepare them for the gruelling season ahead....

Lloyds to axe 3,000 jobs

Lloyds Bank today announced it is axing a further 3,000 roles and closing 200 more branches by the end of 2017.

The cuts are in addition to the 9,000 job and 200 branch closures Lloyds announced in 2014.

Lloyds reported a £2.5bn pre-tax profit for the half year to the end of June, double what it made last year.

However, chief executive Antonio Horta-Osorio warned that he expects a "deceleration of growth" following the UK's decision to leave the EU.

Road closures remained in place today folllowing a serious fire in Exeter city centre.

Police say traffic disruption could last up to another 24 hours.

Fifteen appliances from across Devon, including one from Somerset, were called to the Richer Sounds in Sidwell Street at around 1.45pm yesterday, after smoke was reported to be billowing from the store.

The building was extensively damaged and needs to be made safe.

Western Way and most approaches to St Anne's roundabout remain closed.

Old Tiverton Road and Blackboy Road junctions have reopened....
