Vulnerable SW residents could lose £51 in housing benefit a week

A proposed cap on Housing Benefit could see the South West’s supported housing residents asked to make up a shortfall of more than £51 a week to pay rent. According to figures from the Starts at Home campaign, roughly 5,500 could be affected in the first year alone.

A Devon-based project is aiming to shine a light on the night time lives of one of the county’s rarest nocturnal animals: the greater horseshoe bat.

South West Coast Path set to see more overseas tourists

England has seen record tourism spend in the past year from both domestic and international visitors. The number of domestic overnight trips taken in England grew by 11% in 2015 while visits from overseas tourists have shown strong regional growth in the South West of an extra 6%.

Flood defence work gets underway in Exwick

Work gets underway on a new flood embankment around Exwick playing fields next week (5 September).

The work, which aims to reduce flood risk to properties behind the playing fields, is part of the second phase of Exeter’s flood defence scheme.

Two out of the three playing fields will remain open during the works but the third playing field, which is closest to the health centre, will be used to stockpile material and provide onsite facilities until the embankment is complete. Local Charities benefit from work of Exeter Foundation

The success of the Exeter Foundation was highlighted in all its glory as 18 local charities and organisations were rewarded at Saturday night’s Season Launch Dinner held at Sandy Park.

A grand total of over £53,000 – raised through match-day bucket and car park collections – was distributed to the charities and organisations following another hugely successful year for the charity.

Each charity was also given an extra £1,000 as a gesture of thanks for their ongoing good work that they continuously provide for the citizens of Exeter and surrounding areas.

Funding boost for Sound Gallery CIC

Exeter-based social enterprise Sound Gallery CIC, is pleased to announce that their application to the Devon Community Foundation has been successful and have been awarded £2,000 from The Wace Family Trust.
