A Willand sports club is set to introduce more youngsters to gymnastics, weightlifting and athletics thanks to a donation from a leading UK housebuilder. Excelsior Athletic Development Club received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South West as part of the firm’s Community Champion initiative, which sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities each year. The club has 32 gymnasts aged from five to 10 and will use the donation to invest in new gymnastics mats. Dream-A-Way, the local Exeter based charity run entirely by a dedicated volunteer team, celebrated their 21st annual golf day at Woodbury Park recently, on a day which proved record breaking in many ways. South West independent electrical wholesaler Devondale Electrical has been shortlisted in the prestigious Electrical Industry Awards.

The company, which has its headquarters in Exeter, is a finalist in the hotly contested ‘Wholesaler of the Year’ category.

Council leader praises work of animal sanctuary

Tails will be wagging at Ferne Animal Sanctuary thanks to a donation of more than £2,000 raised by East Devon District Council’s Environmental Health Team.

The Team has held a raffle on its stall at Honiton Show over the last two years and the money was raised through selling tickets. At this year’s show, more than 200 prizes were donated by local businesses across East Devon.

Exeter School is celebrating an excellent start to the academic year with four Combined Cadet Force (CCF) announcements.

Upper Sixth Former Jenny Herring, Coxswain and senior cadet in the Royal Navy Section, has been selected as one of this year's Lord Lieutenant's cadets for Devon. This means that she will regularly accompany the Lord Lieutenant who is the Queen's official representative, throughout the county on his visits and functions.
