Killerton’s annual apple harvest is fast approaching and the National Trust property is calling out for volunteers large and small to help with their ‘Big Pick Up’ weekends. This year looks to be a bumper crop and the trees are heavy with fruit which shows the summer rain was good for something after all!

RD&E Trust Chairman supports need for big changes in NHS in Devon

Speaking at the Royal Devon & Exeter’s NHS Foundation Trust’s (RD&E) Annual Members’ Meeting on Saturday 24 September, Trust Chairman, James Brent, highlighted the need for changes to be made to the way in which care is delivered in Devon but also said that people will need to take greater responsibility for their own health and well-being.

Mr Brent underlined the strong public support for the NHS but added, that “while we do brilliantly at delivering great care to our patients we know that how the system works as a whole is neither clinically nor financially sustainable....

Tributes to 'big hearted' biker who died after crash

Tributes have been paid to Jerry Daniell, a “Big hearted man” who died following a serious collision in Newton Abbot on Thursday the 22nd September.

Emergency services were called to Shaldon Road at 2.10pm after the collision between a red Mercedes B180 and the black Yamaha V-Max motorcycle outside Milber Service Station.

The motorcycle rider, 53-year-old Jerry Daniell from Torquay, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Torbay Hospital where he sadly died the following day.

Police seek witness to incident in Exeter

Police in Exeter have released the image of a man they wish to identify as they believe he may have witnessed a crime in the City Centre.

Detective Constable Mark Nagle, said: “Just after midnight on Friday the 16th of September, we responded to reports of two men on bicycles in Bampfylde Street in Princesshay, Exeter acting in a threatening manner.

“One of these men was seen to point what was believed to be a handgun and threatened a passer-by.

Exeter charity given green light to make energy efficiency improvements

Staff, volunteers and patients at the city’s hospice were celebrating after being awarded £2,000 from the E.ON Energy Action Fund towards the cost of replacement lighting throughout the building.

In a bid to improve its energy efficiency, charity Hospiscare has now begun fitting LED lighting in its day care and in-patient units, education facilities and staff offices. Hospiscare expects the new, high efficiency lighting to reduce its electricity use by more than 60%, with resulting savings to the charity of around £5,000 a year.
