Entries are now open for the 15th annual Michelmores Property Awards, which showcase and celebrate the very best of the South West's property and construction industry.

Michelmores is calling upon property developers, building contractors, architects and other industry professionals to nominate buildings, projects and businesses from across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Bristol and Dorset across ten categories.

Princesshay extension plans submitted

The Crown Estate and TH Real Estate’s plans for an extension to Princesshay Shopping Centre have been submitted to Exeter City Council for approval. Outline consent for the scheme was formally granted in July 2016. This saw the basic concept for the scheme approved, including things like its size and scale, and the types of uses that it will include. Exeter community café to host free lunch on Christmas Day for elderly and alone

A charity run community café in Exeter will open its doors to the elderly and lonely on Christmas Day.

Café 55, run by national disability charity Sense, will offer a free Christmas lunch, with all the trimmings, for up to 30 people who would otherwise be spending the day alone. Guests will also be treated to some festive entertainment including carols sung by The Rediscover Church choir, and presents and food donated by the Pinhoe and Guildhall Sainsbury’s stores. Three cats rescued from fire

The Fire Service were called to reports of a property fire in St Pauls Road, Honiton.

Fire Control mobilised two appliances from Honiton together with one appliance from Sidmouth, .

Upon arrival crews confirmed there to be a fire in a first floor flat, crews got to work using four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, thermal image camera and positive pressure ventilation to clear the smoke from the building. All occupants have been accounted for.

The cause of fire is believed to be deliberate ignition, 20% of flat damaged by fire and 80% damaged by smoke....

Coffee shop and play kingdom Tickety-Boo in Ottery St Mary has been so successful that a second chef has joined the team.

Trystan Bridgman, 37, has an extensive background in catering, having worked at Deer Park Hotel and Twisted Oak.

Local lad Trystan, who has been cheffing since he left The Kings School, will be working with Head Chef Dave Goldsworthy to bring more new dishes to the coffee shop menu. He said:

Appeal for knitters to help provide school uniforms for children in Kenya

Local Somerset charity Mend the Gap is appealing for local knitters to make jumpers for school children in Kenya. As the jumpers will be washed in river water, 4 ply acrylic wool will be needed as pure wool will shrink. Wool can be provided for those who would like to knit but are unable to get the wool. There are well established regular knitting groups in the villages of Churchill, Langford, Sandford and Kewstoke that meet regularly to knit for the charity. Overnight temporary traffic lights on Bridge Road

Temporary traffic lights will be in use at Bridge Road in Exeter over four nights, starting from this evening (Thursday 15 December).

The road will be reduced to one lane when the temporary lights are installed overnight between 11pm and 5am tonight, tomorrow night (Friday 16 December), Monday 19 December and Tuesday 20 December.

The temporary lights will provide the contractor with the working space to install new streetlights on the downstream side of Countess Wear Bridge.

RGB Building Supplies has been named on Real Business magazine’s Hot 100 list which reveals the fastest growing private businesses in the UK.

Based on turnover and profit growth over a four-year period, to make the list a company had to achieve sales of more than £10m and post an EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) of more than £1m. With a turnover of £54.3m and EBITDA of £2.1m, RGB is the only Devon based company to make it on the Hot 100 list.
