Racing Clydesdales return to Exeter Racecourse

Dartmoor’s racing Clydesdales are back at Exeter Racecourse on November 20, when the track celebrate Devon Day. Professional jockeys will on board the gentle giants urging them down the home straight in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance.

The race, which comes under starters’ orders at 12.20pm, is an annual highlight on Exeter’s calendar, with the gentle magnificence of these huge horses drawing cheers of admiration from the crowd.

Tom Parker, Siryl, Big Allan, Frankie Doodle, Midge, Salvo, Ecco and Solo have been in training on Dartmoor in readiness for the race which provides...

The eerie atmosphere lingered above the crowd like ominous fog suddenly appearing in a thriller movie. The crowd were born ready, but were the security guards? We were soon to find out.

It's Friday the 11th of November and The Great Hall in Exeter held the gig of the year, feeding us the reckless punk-duo, Slaves. Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman both from Kent, changed the norm and brought punk back to our charts in 2014. Formed in 2012 the duo signed to Virgin EMI in 2014 releasing their most popular song ‘The Hunter’ that November.

SW Stop Smoking Services under threat

People across the South West are being urged to back a hard-hitting initiative to save Stop Smoking Services from closure, as new figures released today (Wednesday) reveal dangerous funding cuts. A new joint report by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and Cancer Research UK found that 57 per cent of local authorities in the South West were forced to reduce their smoking cessation budgets in the last year, putting these vital services – and thousands of lives - at risk. Planning Inspectorate publish report on Devon Minerals Plan

Devon County Council’s new Minerals Plan is set to be adopted following support from the Government’s Planning Inspectorate.

The report, published following a public inquiry in May, concludes that the Plan meets legal requirements and provides an appropriate basis for the future quarrying plans in the county for the next 17 years.

The inquiry heard from a wide range of objectors and included discussions on the new mineral extraction areas at Drakelands Mine and near Ottery St Mary and Uffculme, together with wider protection for mineral resources.

Missing teenager Arthur Heeler-Frood found

Arthur Heeler-Frood has been found safe and well in Honiton today [Tuesday 15 November].

The 15-year-old was located by officers at Honiton train station after being alerted by a member of the public shortly after 4.30pm.

Arthur is now being reunited with his family.

He went missing after leaving his family home in Axminster on the morning of Tuesday 6 September and failed to turn up at school.

Officers would like to thank the member of the public who called in and also thank everyone who has assisted with the appeal to find Arthur over the last two months...

Killerton to sparkle with Brothers Grimm fairy tales

A Brothers Grimm spell has been cast over Killerton this Christmas.

For the first time, the National Trust property will be transformed into classic fairy tales with a festive twist from Saturday 19 November.

Each year, to celebrate the start of Christmas at Killerton, the staff step out of their day jobs and ‘get into character’ for the festive theme with a specially commissioned photoshoot.
