UK house prices to increase by 3% in 2017

House prices in the UK will see an average increase of 3% over the course of next year as the number of transactions stabilises, according to the RICS housing forecast for 2017.

Following on from the 2016 forecast, the supply pipeline or lack of it is at the forefront of the analysis and dominates the residential market. While there is an improvement, the legacy of building on an insufficient scale has left the average inventory on estate agents books close to a historic low*.

Connecting Devon & Somerset (CDS), the largest Government funded superfast broadband programme in the UK, has today signed new contracts with Ultrafast broadband provider, Gigaclear, for four of the six lots on offer for phase two of its roll-out. Bungling Devon thief jailed after breaking into ticket machine

A bungling Devon thief will be tucking into Christmas dinner behind bars this year after being jailed for breaking into a ticket machine at Torre railway station.

Andrew George, 44, was caught on camera - along with his accomplice Michael Batty, aged 34 - trying to steal cash from the machine on 7 August.

The pair tried to throw police off the scent by turning up three hours earlier and breaking a CCTV camera before putting bin bags and tape over the machine to make it look like it was out of order while they tampered with it.

Christmas market manager praises another successful year

Exeter’s Christmas market has exceeded expectations this year according to the market manager, as the event came to an end last Sunday.

New companies which set up a stall this year will be returning to the market next Christmas with bigger stalls after this year’s success.

The market’s Facebook page was at around 8,800 likes last year, this year the page is now at around 15,600 likes.

Work begins on £11.6m Passivhaus scheme in Plymouth

Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) has started work to build 72 low-energy homes in the city.

The city’s largest housing association has appointed Mi-space to build the £11.6m Passivhaus scheme in Bodmin Road, Whitleigh, which will provide of a range of one bedroom flats and two and three bedroom houses.

The properties will be built using Passivhaus design principles which will provide residents with a home that requires minimal energy for heating due to the high levels of insulation and air sealing.

Christmas jumpers, a flock of knitted sheep, festive lights and children in nativity costumes created a fun filled carol service at Isca Church.

The nativity story was told by Isca's children’s worker Jane Webber, helped by a flock of knitted sheep and a cast of children.

After the service everyone tucked into festive food cooked by a team led by Heather Knee, who used to run the celebrated Georgian Tea Rooms in Topsham.

Fundraisers plan 50-mile step into Christmas

A group of fundraisers will step into Christmas this week by walking 50 miles all through the night to support two local charities.

They plan to set out from Exeter at 1pm on Friday and will walk to Exmouth and back, on to Dawlish and finish in Exminster on the morning of Christmas Eve.

All they want for Christmas is decent weather and plenty of support and sponsorship for their chosen causes – FORCE Cancer Charity and Dream-A-Way.

Leading telecoms provider Onecom has become one of the first companies to be awarded the status of Total Communications Partner under the new Vodafone Partner Programme.

The award comes after Onecom staff completed thousands of hours of training in total communications expertise and customer excellence.

A total of 425 staff members at Onecom’s Hampshire headquarters and at its offices around the UK completed a combined 1,882 hours of training to meet Vodafone’s requirements for submission to the programme.
