Tesco Extra Exeter Vale is lighting up Christmas for a charity which provides treatment and therapies for children and young people throughout Devon with physical difficulties. Manager Ian Dyer, Community Champion Jo Evans and Tesco colleagues from the Russell Way store visited Vranch House to deliver an eight-foot Christmas artificial tree and help put up festive lights and decorations. Devon and Cornwall Police is urging the public to think carefully before they contact the police non-emergency 101 service this Christmas and to go online for their answers where possible, and also to remember that inappropriate calls increase waiting times for other callers.

Inappropriate calls and emails to 101 take up the valuable time of the staff in the contact centres when they could be helping those in need. Devon and Somerset Trading Standards have issued a warning to prospective dog purchasers, advising them to beware of buying from illegal puppy dealers.

Record attendances at philharmonic carol concert

Exeter Philharmonic Choir's two annual carol concerts at the city's cathedral saw record attendances this year.

The choir, one of the oldest established choral groups in Britain, is celebrating its 170th season.

Members chose to donate the proceeds of their retiring collection to Exeter Community Initiatives, a charity which runs community projects for vulnerable people in the city. The collection raised over £2,850.

The choir's next concert at the cathedral will be a performance of Verdi's Requiem on March 18th.

Logistics firm Kay Transport, in Ivybridge, is helping to transport an industry record number of pallets this Christmas and move goods worth at least £340 million to the British economy.

Kay Transport is a member of Palletways UK, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network which reports that, in November, more than 500,000 pallets were moved. December started with a record week of 117,000 pallets handled – the final figure is expected to hit 350,000. The combined 850,000 total is an industry record.

The Post Office is reminding customers that the CWU has called strike action in 300 of its 11,600 branches on Saturday 24th December, which may result in the closure of some of these branches.
