Police granted closure order at an East Devon flat after complaints from residents

Police have been granted a closure order at a flat in Axminster, the first of its kind in the area, following repeated complaints of anti-social behaviour, drunken behaviour and drug taking at the property.

Exeter Magistrates granted a three month closure order on flat 2 Milton Mews after the Court was satisfied that the tenant, 56-year-old John Cambridge, had caused nuisance to members of the public and anti-social behaviour.

Clyst Honiton Tunnel closed for two weeks

Clyst Honiton Tunnel will be closed for two weeks from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 September for a lighting upgrade.

Currently the tunnel uses 238, mostly 400watt, lights – they will be replaced with 94 263watt LED lights.

The new lights will enable Devon County Council to make large energy savings.

It is estimated that in just four years the cost of installation will be offset by the saving in energy costs.

Body found in sea near Ladram Bay believed to be that of a 50-year-old woman from Surrey

Police called at around 1:25pm on Saturday the 9th of September with reports of a body in the water at Chiselbury Bay near Ladram Bay Holiday Park.

The body of a woman was spotted by a fisherman who reported in to both police and coastguard teams.

The Sidmouth lifeboat was launched and recovered the woman to Sidmouth beach, but a paramedic at the scene confirmed that she was deceased.

Private sector employment in the South West grew at the fastest pace in over two years in August, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI®).

The South West PMI recorded its highest reading in four months after climbing to 54.3 in August, up from 54.0 in July. The rate of expansion was also slightly faster than the UK average (54.0). A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity.
