Councillors approve proposals for Wildlife Refuges in the Exe Estuary

Councillors from local authorities surrounding the Exe Estuary approved proposals for Wildlife Refuges at a meeting of the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee on Monday (23rd October 2017).

Following a comprehensive nine month consultation, views including concerns about safety, from residents and the wide range of Exe Estuary users were taken into account in developing the voluntary areas.

Preparations to help people learn about the areas will now begin.

Gigaclear and Carillion Telent contract set to bring full fibre broadband to rural SW

Rural broadband specialist Gigaclear has awarded Carillion telent a contract to bring ultrafast full fibre broadband to more than 80,000 properties in some of the most rural parts of South West England. The work will start immediately, with the first customers coming on stream early in 2018 and the full roll out complete by the end of 2019. Gigaclear’s network will give homes and businesses in the area access to speeds of up to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps), where previously they have struggled with speeds as low as 1Mbps. Drainage work planned on B3184

Essential drainage improvements are due to be carried out on the B3184 Marwood Lane, near Aylesbeare, next week.

The road, near Exeter Airport, is scheduled to be closed from Monday 30 October as it will need to be excavated in several areas, which will make it impassable. The closure is expected to last for up to five days and a signed diversion will be in place.
