University of Exeter researchers among world’s ‘most influential scientific minds’, says new ranking

Leading academics from the University of Exeter – including an authority on plastics pollution – are among the world’s most “influential scientific minds”, according to a new ranking.

Twelve Exeter scientists feature in an authoritative new list of the most highly cited researchers worldwide, produced by Clarivate Analytics.

The ranking looks at which research is cited by other academics in their published papers.

It lists researchers, across 21 fields, who produced a “notable” number of highly cited papers in Clarivate’s Web of Science database over the period 2005...

Budleigh’s new sports activity wall ready for action

Versatile £15,000 sports wall will be an asset to town thanks to S106 contributions from property developers building in Budleigh

In a joint project run between Budleigh Salterton Town Council and East Devon District Council, a brand new £15,000 sports activity wall is now in place in the town.

Over 300 people in Budleigh Salterton originally had their say on how to spend money on outdoor sports in the town a couple of years ago – their priorities were for a new outdoor gym and foot/cycle path improvements for The Green. Both of these have happened now.

Police and Crime Commissioner backs North Devon Link Road improvements

Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez has given her full backing to Devon County Council’s bid to improve the north Devon link road.

Ms Hernandez, who is joint national PCC lead on road safety alongside Martin Underhill in Dorset, says she is determined to offer whatever support she can to improve the safety of the roads in Devon and Cornwall.

“The North Devon Link Road provides a critically important connection between the M5 and the north of the county,” she said.

First production for new theatre group

MID Devon community theatre group Activ8 Theatre takes to the stage this December with its brilliant first musical production - the charming tale of little orphan Annie. And it’s a show of firsts, with it being the first major performance in The Venue, the brand new 400-seat theatre at Uffculme School, and a first leading role for talented nine-year-old Eva Green who plays the title character.

Three arrested following drugs warrant in Exeter

On Thursday 15th November, police from Exeter CID executed a Misuse of Drugs Acts (MUDA) warrant at the Spice Island Restaurant, on Magdalen Street, Exeter.

Police discovered multiple grows and a substantial amount of what’s believed cannabis; This plus hydroponic equipment has been seized by officers.

Three men from Exeter were arrested on suspicion of producing and cultivating a Class-B drug. All three have been released by police pending further enquiries.

Broadclyst gets new night landing site for Devon Air Ambulance

Devon Air Ambulance will now be able to land safely in Broadclyst at night due to a new community landing site at Broadclyst Recreation Field. New landing site lighting, operated remotely by the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services, has been installed at the Recreation Field to facilitate emergency night operations. This new facility is partly funded by East Devon District Council and Devon County Council through their Parishes Together Fund, and partly funded by Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) through funding from the Bank Libor fines.
