Exeter Chiefs 8 Leinster 18

You don’t win titles by chance, especially when it comes to Europe, and Leinster underlined just why they are one of the best in the business, inflicting defeat on rivals Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park.

Almost a year to the day since Bordeaux-Begles emerged victorious from fortress Sandy Park, so it was the turn of the Irish province to experience the same winning feeling against Rob Baxter’s men.

Leo Cullen’s outfit produced not only a victorious display in deepest Devon, but a streetwise one at that, claiming tries through Johnny Sexton and Jack Conan, together with...

For some families, this will be the last Christmas they spend together. This December, Hospiscare is asking for your help to give patients with terminal illnesses the Christmas they deserve.

Take Colin, for example. Last year, Colin had terminal lung cancer and was admitted to the hospice ward in Exeter a few days before Christmas. He had gone to the hospital where they found he had an infection, and he was given the choice of being treated in the hospital or the hospice. Colin chose the hospice, which he knew well, and where they had the expertise to control the pain he was...

City beaten in Essex

Exeter City fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.

Two first-half goals from Sammie Szmodics and an own goal in the first-half was enough to take the match away from City who did pull one back through Jayden Stockley in the second-half, but it wasn't enough despite creating a host of chances later in the match.

With the Grecians returning to league action, Paul Tisdale made two changes to the City side that began the dramatic draw in the FA Cup against Forest Green as Reuben Reid and Ryan Harley...

Gross materialism raises its ugly but seductive head as we move towards Christmas. In Exeter, this is partly symbolised by the Christmas market apparently competing with the Cathedral for custom on Cathedral Green, in this annual clash between Christianity and Consumerism.

Shrewd Santa is the sacred figure of our age stimulating desiring and devouring in malls and missives across the land. As Giles Fraser put it in the Guardian, ‘the great circus of greed is playing itself out all over the country’.

We are once again drawn into a world where material ‘goods’ become the main...
