A Devon-based care home’s annual Christmas party had a little added festive spirit in a bid to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

The Rise Care Home decided to go all out with their festivities with friends, family and lots of grandchildren enjoying the day. Staff dressed up as elves and they had a Christmas Market, selling hot chocolate, mulled wine and festive crafts made by staff and residents. Not to mention a visit from the big man himself.

Hollie Simons, Activities Coordinator at The Rise Care Home, took up the challenge of Chief Elf and organised candy canes for friends, family and residents to write on with a personal message for a loved one to hang on the Christmas tree. This was a lovely addition to the day and The Rise Care Home raised £75 for the charity.

Hollie said: "I decided to take part in raising money for Alzheimer’s Society because I have only recently started in my position as an Activities Coordinator and have been learning different ways to help support those living with dementia.

“I have found it very rewarding and absolutely love my job. I am so proud to donate the money we raised to Alzheimer’s Society as it is a fantastic charity that can help to provide the much-needed support for people living with dementia nationwide.

“As a care home, we see the effects dementia has every day and it’s great to think that we have raised funds to help support people to live well with dementia and to fund research to one day find a cure.”

Alzheimer's Society Community Fundraiser Dania Shaw welcomed Rise Care Home’s decision to boost the charity. She said: “It’s great that Rise Care Home and Hollie gave their time to support Alzheimer’s Society. Dementia can happen to anyone and there is currently no cure. But with the right support, people can live well with dementia.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations like Rise Care Home to help us continue our vital work so that Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”

Alzheimer’s Society is urging everyone to come together and unite against dementia. If you want to plan your own fundraising event, from a bake sale to a bungee jump, please contact Dania Shaw now on 01752 608904.
