Launched in 2010, Jerwood Makers Open is a biennial opportunity focusing on UK makers who propose to make ambitious, radical work in their first years of practice.

Five artists, Sam Bakewell, Juli Bolaños-Durman, Jessica Harrison, Marcin Rusak and Laura Youngson Coll, were selected from 271 submissions.

Each received grants to develop and tour new work in a diverse range of materials. Exhibits incorporate chainsaw-carved wood, parian porcelain, repurposed glass, organic waste, vellum and fish skin.

In Beauty and the Beast, this season’s pantomime at the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter Little Theatre Company deliver a festive theatrical treat which manages to combine the traditional with the contemporary and acting grass roots with the professional.

Project explores travel habits in Exeter

A project to update the transport strategy for Exeter has been examining the main findings from its initial work over the last six months.

The Exeter Mobility Plan recently held its second stakeholder event to explore its data which has highlighted that the majority of Exeter residents do not drive to work and, encouragingly, 55% of trips of less than 5km in Exeter are made either by walking, cycling or by bus. Devon County Council’s campaign to re-establish regular rail services on the Exeter to Okehampton line has won the support of an influential group of South West MPs.

The South West Rail All Party Parliamentary Group will lobby the Department for Transport for vital funding following a presentation in Westminster by Cllr Andrea Davis, Devon’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Development and Waste. Flower Festival: In Our Element at Crediton Parish Church

The Crediton Parish Church Flower Festival is one of the main fundraising events for the upkeep of Holy Cross and many people from our parishes work to make it a very special and memorable week.

The 2018 Festival has the intriguing title ‘In Our Element’ and runs from 10.30am on Saturday 2nd June until 5 pm on Thursday 7th June.

Work towards the 2018 Flower Festival began as soon as the 2017 Festival ended. The title of the last Festival was ‘What’s the Point’, and a big talking point was a rhino in the church.

East Devon is recycling Christmas trees at eight different sites in this week.

The trees will be shredded and the chippings will be used in local parks and gardens.

Take your Christmas tree along to one of the following recycling events:

Bogus caller targets elderly woman in East Devon

Detectives are seeking witnesses after a bogus telephone engineer tricked his way into the Axminster home of an elderly woman and stole her purse.

The man called at the property close to Waggs Plot around 10.30am on Saturday 30 December pretending to be working on the local phone lines.

Once inside the offender stole the woman’s purse containing cash and fled the property when the victim, who is in in her 80s, said someone else was at home.
