FORCE funds new chemotherapy service

Cancer patients in West Devon are to be offered chemotherapy treatment in Okehampton for the first time, thanks to funding from Exeter-based FORCE Cancer Charity.

The service will be available every Wednesday between 10am and 4pm at Okehampton Hospital from February 21.

FORCE already offers regular support and information sessions at Castle Ham Lodge in Okehampton and has set aside money from a legacy to pay for this new and important weekly service in the town.

Overnight closures are needed on Ashburton Road in Newton Abbot this month while preparatory work is carried out in advance of path improvements.

The northern footpath is due to be widened in order to improve pedestrian and cycle links between new housing developments and the town centre. Night time closures are needed to enable the clearance of a number of trees, west of Barton Drive, before the bird nesting season starts. Broadclyst School through to regional final of national table tennis championship

The under-11s boys’ team at Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS) have made it through to the regional final of the English Schools’ Table Tennis Butterfly National School Team Championship 2018, and will be competing at Bristol Academy of Sport on Saturday, 3 February for a place in the national finals.

New paper cup recycling scheme launched in Teignbridge

Teignbridge District Council, in partnership with the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE UK), is launching a new recycling service for plastic-lined paper cups.

As of this month people can recycle their used cups alongside food and drink cartons at specialist recycling banks across the district. The recycling banks will accept paper cups which are used for hot drinks such as tea and coffee in high street coffee shops, fast food outlets and supermarkets. The banks can be found at:

Research at the University of Exeter designed to help identify patients with dementia and reduce the pressure on health services has received a generous boost of £120,000 from the Halpin Trust.
