CDS now offering Better Broadband scheme vouchers

The Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) broadband programme has today announced that it is now offering vouchers through the national BDUK Better Broadband Scheme.

All homes and businesses in the region with broadband speeds of less than two Megabits per second (Mbps), without a published delivery date for superfast broadband within the next 12 months, are now eligible to apply for an interim solution under the voucher scheme.

The Better Broadband Voucher Scheme, administered by BDUK, helps provide access to a broadband service offering download speeds of at least 10 Mbps...

Newton Abbot Leisure Centre is opening its doors for a day of free activities on Saturday 23 March, with lots of healthy fun and action on offer for all ages.

Come along between 12pm to 3pm when the whole family can try a variety of free activities. There will be 30 minute adult and junior taster sessions on offer, including exercise classes, gym tours, swimming pool flume fun and a free crèche.

Agreement signed for new watersports centre in Exmouth

East Devon District Council and Grenadier Estates have today signed the agreement for the new Watersports Centre at Queen’s Drive on Exmouth seafront.

The centre will include a restaurant, public parking, communal space and a new ramp giving direct access to the beach. Grenadier has agreed a target to complete construction by summer 2020.

East Devon is due to complete the new road and car park at Queen’s Drive by 19 June 2019 and, under the agreement, Grenadier will be required to take on the lease for the site following completion of the road and car park.

Vulnerable older people in Exeter and East Devon Granted £37k by Devonshire Freemasons

Up to 2,400 older people living in parts of Exeter and East Devon will receive help to live full and independent lives in their own homes for longer, thanks to a grant from Devonshire Freemasons.

The £37,184 grant to The Estuary League of Friends, has funded a new Volunteer Coordinator Marilyn Spencer who will be responsible for creating 75 new volunteering opportunities for local people. It will help Estuary reach out to 1,000 more people in need over the next two years.

Hours of training around Exeter will prepare serving Royal Air Force mum Tracie Pickett for the incredible experience of the London Marathon. She volunteered at the event in 2015 and since then she has dreamed of taking part. This year is her chance.

Devon’s famous Lucombe Oak among 100 new trees to mark the Forestry Commission’s centenary year at the showground in May.

The Forestry Commission is providing100 new trees at Westpoint Showground, home of the Devon County Show, as part of its centenary year celebrations.
