Ordnance Survey launches front cover photo competition for new OS Explorer Dartmoor map

OS is running a contest to find a new front cover image for its popular OL 28 Dartmoor Explorer map.

The competition, run in conjunction with Dartmoor National Park, intends to find a beautiful image to represent the picturesque moorland in 2021.

It is being held to commemorate 70 years of National Parks.

The contest is open to any walker or photography enthusiast who feels they have pictures in their digital archives good enough to become the winning image.

Devon's gritters gear up for snow

Devon’s gritting teams are gearing up for the possibility of snow showers later tonight (Monday 8 February).

Extremely cold conditions are expected to continue all week and there is a risk of up to 5cm of snow over the next 24 hours, with flurries most likely in the east of the county.

Road surface temperatures are expected to fall to as low as -7C this evening, the lowest so far this winter.

Devon’s gritters have treated secondary routes already today, and the main salting routes will be treated this afternoon and again in the early hours.

Traffic signal replacement in Exeter

Traffic signals at the junction of Cowick Street and Buddle Lane in Exeter are to be replaced from next week.

Work will start on the lights on Monday 15 February and is expected to continue until Friday 12 March.

The scheme also includes replacing the signals at the pedestrian crossing near the access road to Bowhill Primary School.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place to replicate the permanent signals as much as possible for the duration of the work.
