Richard Foord MP visits Isembard’s Exeter factory
Richard was shown the high-precision machinery used to produce defence and aerospace components.
Shaun and Richard discussed Isembard’s unique role as a software-led manufacturer supporting critical industries, as well as the South West’s growing strength in advanced manufacturing and maritime innovation.
The conversation also covered the importance of building the links between industry and education, through opportunities for apprenticeships, gaining practical engineering experience, and creating high-quality, well-paid jobs in the South West.
Richard Foord, MP for Honiton & Sidmouth, said “We know that it is tough out there right now for young people in Devon, embarking on their chosen careers. That is why I am impressed by the get-up-and-go displayed by 22-year-old Shaun Rowcliffe, who has just started out in his own precision parts factory in Cullompton. He is joining the Isembard franchise, which is equally impressive in its ambition to put Britain back on the global manufacturing stage, proclaiming nothing less than a second industrial revolution. I wish them well in their endeavours.”
Shaun Rowcliffe, General Manager of Isembard Exeter, said “It was fantastic to welcome such a strong advocate for local manufacturing to my Exeter factory. Richard understands the importance of an industrial technology business like Isembard, the growth of franchisees like me and what we’re trying to achieve for British manufacturing. My goal is to deliver for my customers. We will soon scale the business further with more robotic investment and hiring more people. As we like to say at Isembard, small acorns yield mighty oaks” .
